Course Overview

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) requires care providers to have a formal system to assess staff competence. During this 2-day practical workshop, we will assess your own competence at administering: tablets and capsules, oral liquids, topical (applied to the skin) medicines , inhalers and eye drops using a structured assessment checklist. We will then assess you as you assess others. The course also includes:

  • One copy of our distance learning course “Support the Use of Medication in Social Care Settings (version 4)”
  • One e-learning module (that accompanies the above book)
  • The Assessors Checklist with accompanying notes
  • One Virtual Medicines Round online competence assessment

Day 1

You will attend our Accredited Practical Workshop in Medicines Administration where you will learn:

  • What forms and support plans do CQC require to ensure medicines are given in a person-centred way
  • How to ensure medicines are given at the correct times in line with CQC expectations
  • Where are the up to date reliable sources of medicines information
  • What checks should you make on a mixed monitored dosage system (MDS)?
