Course overview

Course last audited November 2024

When handling medicines in a care home there are certain times that the Care Quality Commission (CQC) require another person to provide a second check/act as a witness. These occasions include:

  • When handling controlled drugs
  • When amending medicines administration records (MARs)
  • Some organisations also have a second person there to receive medicines (although this isn’t a strict CQC requirement).

CQC requires this second person (the witness) to be trained in these tasks, to be clear on their role, and to be confident enough to challenge any mistakes they see. This online course provides the training which medicines witnesses need to achieve this.

Aimed at

Care support workers and registered nurses in care homes who act as medication witnesses.
