Course overview
Safe, compliant management of controlled drugs depends on staff who are confident and well trained. Over time it’s easy to become complacent in the way we work, and therefore it’s vital to check in and refresh your understanding of the legal requirements and best-practice processes.
This refresher course is designed for staff who have already completed our controlled drugs training and now need to update, reinforce and evidence their knowledge. It revisits the key legal controls around controlled drugs — including storage, recording, witnessing and administration — in line with current legislation and national best practice (Controlled drugs: safe use and management, NICE guideline NG46).
The online course includes interactive checkpoints to confirm understanding and highlight any areas that may need a closer look. You’ll also take part in virtual medicines rounds, giving you the opportunity to practise the checks needed when receiving, administering, disposing of and balance-checking controlled drugs — and recording each step accurately along the way.
The course uses our Controlled Drugs Register, designed bespoke for social care and developed in collaboration with two national care organisations. This helps staff refresh their skills and feel confident that they’re using the register correctly in day-to-day practice.
