This version of our Foundation Course in Medicines Administration is specific to Shared Lives Carers and Foster Carers. It teaches how to support with and (if necessary) administer medicines to the person you care for/support.

The training is up to date with the very latest NICE guidelines for community settings. We are experts in providing medication training to Shared Lives Schemes having many years experience working with several national schemes.

  6. How to record various scenarios on your design of medicines chart (tailored to your service)
  7. How to check medicines received from the pharmacy (including blister packs)
  8. What is ‘secondary dispensing’ and why should it be avoided?
  9. Understanding pharmacy labels
  10. Understanding expiry dates
  11. How to set add, stop and alter medicines on your chart (medicines transcription)
  12. Where to go for reliable information on medicines (side effects and dose timings)
  13. How to administer medicines safely from blister packs
  14. How to administer medicines from original packs
  15. Ordering prescriptions and medicines
  16. Administering non-prescribed medicines
  17. Storage and disposal of medicines
  18. Administering oral liquid medicines
  19. Administering creams and ointments
  20. Administering inhalers
  21. Administering eye drops
