This in-person workshop teaches how to manage and treat a person who may require or use oxygen therapy. The course is delivered by an experienced pharmacist or nurse.

The theory aspect is taught using video content, case studies, discussion focused around oxygen administration and storage considerations.

There are practical elements to the course including oxygen equipment placement, use of an oxygen cylinder and an assessment.

Anyone who supports someone using medical oxygen.

  1. What is oxygen?
  2. Overview of oxygen therapy, why do people require additional oxygen?
  3. Signs of respiratory distress
  4. Methods of oxygen administration (not ventilation, tracheostomy or rebreathe (ambu) bags)
  5. Risks associated with giving oxygen
  6. Risk associated with storage of oxygen, oxygen tanks, legal and safety standards
  7. Monitoring oxygen therapy usage – oxygen saturation monitoring, reassessing the person’s respiratory state
  8. Practical and theory quiz assessments
