Course overview
Course last audited November 2024
The course teaches how to care for and administer medicines through a gastronomy tube.
It gives delegates an underpinning knowledge of the theory including topics such as: what is enteral feeding, different enteral feeding devices, indications for enteral feeding, and caring for enteral tubes.
We will discuss administration of feeds and medicines via enteral tubes with a practical competency element using a clinical doll. The purpose of this is to assess a person’s ability to deliver fluids, and care for a tube if it becomes dislodged.
The session will be tailored to the care environment of the trainee, and we will answer any relevant questions the delegates have.
The final assessment is carried out via a theory quiz and practical elements using a clinical doll designed to have a skin level Gastrostomy change, and provide access to give fluids via a gastrostomy device. Delegates will pass the course by completing the theory test, and demonstrating their ability to access the gastrostomy device to simulate care when a tube becomes dislodged.
Aimed at
